In country H, juvenile law has been revised so that the maximum sentence is life imprisonment, and minors who commit crimes are now sent to a so‑called “reform facility” known as the Juvenile Reformatory. However, this punishment in name only only fuels an increase in youth crime and bullying.
High schooler Amamori Gen, who lives in H, is brutally bullied day after day. One day, his beloved dog is mauled to death by a dog owned by his tormentor Kanemoto. Snapping in rage, Gen gravely injures Kanemoto and is sent to the reformatory.
There, too, he lives at the very bottom of the hierarchy, exposed to constant violence—until a certain incident leads him to study under Hongjo Tōya, the man reputed to be the strongest inmate in the entire facility. In this hell where violence rules, can Amamori survive and claw his way up from the very bottom? This is the story of a boy who drags himself up from rock bottom.
